April Post of the Month

I thought I'd begin the new month with a celebration of the best of the old. My (entirely personal) award for the best blawgpost of April 2008 goes to Charon QC for "A trip to The Heron".

Please, don't ask me to explain exactly what the post is about - when one reads Finnigans Wake, one doesn't have a clue what it's about, but one knows that one is reading a work of genius.

As we speak, the prize of a virtual case of Barón de Barbón Oak-Aged Rioja 2004 is winging it's way across the internet to Charon QC.

An award?... as Lady Bracknell would say....

I'm honoured... at last, an award I did not need to confer upon myself.

I'd like to thank my psychiatrist, my personal trainer, Matt Muttley, managing partner of Muttley Dastardly LLP for persuading me not to marry that bird in white stilettos we saw at Spearmint Rhino a year or so ago... and, of course, my ancestors... for without them... , particularly Sir Fellatio Charonblower, I may have had to do accouyntancy exams and become a chartered gorilla.

I am grateful for this award and shall immediately give it pride of place on my blawg header...

    Gracie mille

I'm glad you're pleased - I do like a gracious winner. Now, tell me about that bird in white stilettos...

It has a certain Horatian ring to it:

    Dissolue frigus ligna super foco
    large reponens, atque benignius
    deprome quadrimum Sabina,
    o Thaliarche, merum diota.

Excellent - if there's one thing I never expected to see on my blog, it's a Horace Ode. I'm sure Charon would be as happy to take Rioja from a Sabine jar as anywhere else.

I'll neck it direct from the bottle if I have to....

I could never quite get my head around Ovid's aphorism: " Cui peccare licet peccat minus - One who is allowed to sin, sins less."

Having given myself permission to sin - when off duty, naturally, I find myself drawn to sin...

    But there we are...

The chance to sin would be a fine thing...

I have a CPD course in it... if that would help - time for a dinner, I think!

Must qualify for at least one hour!

Yes, I think that would look good on my CPD record...

It's no good being virtually pissed - one should be completely pissed, or not at all.
