The inquest into the death of Mark Saunders was told this morning that he was shot at least five times, with more than one type of bullet.
Comparisons will inevitably be made with the killing of Jean Charles de Menezes in 2005, but there is of course one essential difference: de Menezes was unarmed. That said, let's hope the full facts surrounding the shooting come out this time.
The inquest was adjourned for four months.

... Did the police REALLY have to pump five different types of bullet into the poor fellow?. The building was, apparently well under control, and there was no way he could have escaped to wreak general havoc ( other than firing three pot shots out of his window which didnt hit anyone); could they not have tried to gas him, tranquillise him or storm the flat with numbers?. The police also spent a lengthy ammount of time in negotiation, but what ever happened to patience when talking someone down?
Whilst I appreciate that the man had been a soldier, and therefore needed to be managed with some caution, wasn't the end response frankly over cautious?!

Yes, there do seem to be a lot of questions to answer. Whether they will be answered satisfactorily remains to be seen.
