All the fun of the fair, English style

When I posted last year on the world's first "divorce fair" in Austria, I asked the question: where Austria leads, will England follow? Well, the answer, it seems, is "yes". As reported in the Telegraph today, Britain's first-ever "divorce fair" is to be held is to be held at Brighton Racecourse on the 11th October. Called the 'Starting Over Show' (S.O.S., geddit?), it is being billed as "the first UK event to help people bounce back from relationship break ups and life crises". There will be an eclectic mix of exhibitors, including mediators, lawyers, financial advisers, a photographer (!), a troupe of pole dancers (!!), and that thing that all divorcing couples need, a mystic housewife healer. I hope visitors will find what they are seeking.

People are right to be suspicious of a divorce fair - especially since previous ones in Europe had DNA testers and Private Detectives attending! But the event is called the Starting Over Show for good reason. The emphasis is on helpful information from professionals who believe in a collaborative not confrontational approach, with most of the event given over to life coaches and well being professionals, healers of mind and spirit. Most importantly, if more divorcing couples put their children first then at least the children would suffer less during the process. I believe that a collaborative and responsible approach to a break up should be supported.

Suzy: Glad to hear that - good luck with the fair/show.

Minx: You could ask Suzy, but I think not. Hopefully (for them) visitors will not be disappointed.

Roll up, roll up.. your chance to hook a duck or even come down the helter skelter! You paint the scene perfectly.

Gulp! 11 October? That's the date I'm getting married.... Oh well, suppose I'd better not attend this year!

No, that would probably be prudent.

BTW, do you want my card? ;-)

    Why pole dancers?

Should I bring along a mystic housewife to be healed?

If my recollection is correct, I think the [excuse] reason for pole dancers is to demonstrate the benefit of exercise.

Yes, I was wondering whether the mystic was a housewife, or healed them!
