Netting the cash

Here's yet another great child support enforcement idea from the other side of the pond. In Oregon and Idaho (and possibly elsewhere), owing child support arrears can prevent you from obtaining a fishing or hunting licence. Apparently, the program has been quite successful. According to this article in the wonderfully-titled Umpqua Post, in Idaho they were "absolutely amazed at how many people were behind in child support could come up with the money to keep from losing their right to hunt and fish, but wouldn’t do so to keep their driver’s license". Clearly, the program hits where it hurts.

I don't know about hunting, but with some 1.5 million angling licences sold each year in England and Wales, such a scheme could certainly be effective over here. Not that the angling community would thank me for suggesting it...
