Only yesterday I was idly wondering whether I was the only one who didn't like wearing poppies or other symbols of good causes. This article in The Independent today confirms that I am not, and that being a 'charity symbol refusenik' does not make me a bad person.

nope; me too! have never worn a poppy and never will. i will wear my grandfather's watch and think about how he went through the somme and came out the other side. i'll say a thank you to the universe that he did so and that i wasn't there as i would certainly have been shot as a deserter.
