I once did a dance to this, with a couple of Irish lasses. They were great (naturally), but my efforts were akin to a drunken hippo on speed, and ended with me collapsing in a big heap, gasping for breath. Thankfully, it wasn't captured on film...

Brilliant John! There was a documentary on Thin Lizzy on BBC4 recently and it seems they were reluctant to even do this old folk song. One of the most distinctive guitar intros of all time and Phil Lynott snarling "and I shot him with both barrels" is pure menace.
ReplyDeletePerfect choice and thanks for posting it. Might educate some younger readers!
Glad you like it, not that I thought there was much chance that you wouldn't!
DeletePretty hard to go wrong with a band like that John. Funny how the best 70's bands seem to have aged well when stuff recorded more recently hasn't (or maybe I'm just an old git)
ReplyDeleteNot sure how to convert links but this is another classic from them, "The cowboy song"
