I cannot read cases like this without experiencing an overwhelming sense of anger and despair. Let’s be blunt- if you or I acted illogically and irrationally, claiming that we heard voices instructing us, we would likely be sectioned and lose contact with our children, to whom we would be deemed a risk.
On the other hand, if we claim that “God” speaks to us and instructs us; that are delusional beliefs are in fact supported by our subjective interpretation of supposedly holy writ, we, and the poisoning of the minds of our children, are protected by the state which cannot be seen to interfere unduly.
That seems to me to be (at the very least) a glaring anomaly in the Mental Health Act and in the application of the paramountcy principle in CA proceedings.
I couldn’t help but note that for all her supposed adherence to biblical scriptures, the mother in this case was not immune to employing a certain degree of artistic license to the commandment “Thou shalt not bear false witness.”
Poor kid- and he’s just one of a few who have come to the attention of the courts.
