Dear Anonymous,
no-one is going to sweep into an ordinary family home and say, 'we've got a mercedes, give us your children'!
The issue here was clearly that the child had been raised by the grandmother since birth and therefore to move the child to a new home would be a huge trauma and disruption. There clearly has been a lot going wrong in that child's life already if the mother couldn't raise it and consented to residence going to the grandmother, so to unsettle a child my moving it again would be very damaging.
As it says right up top, continuity of care is the crucial issue.

I don't know the details of the case and the decissions may well be right, who knows? The issue that got me is that they have extended the Best Interest of The Child as "best"

Best what? Bed house, best dedicated time, best gardem, best schooling??? With this kind of measure, it's not hard to see that non-biological people will be able to challenge parents for their children, by offering children better outcomes, and of course if these strangers can offer such benefits, sureley they would be seen as best for the welfare of the child.

How far can this thinking go?

Regardless of the facts of this case, the issue about preferring "best" over biology, is very concerning indeed.
