A middle-aged solicitor’s latest bid for continued financial support from his parents has been rejected, with the Court of Appeal today ruling his proposed appeal is ‘completely without merit’. Full story: Law Society Gazette.

Judge credits psychological assessment with calming of “high octane” conflict between parents and care workers
A High Court judge has credited a psychological assessment "almost entirely" for helping repair a deeply polarised relationship between care workers and the parents of a boy with serious disabilities who is subject of an application for a care order. Full story: Local Government Lawyer.

Derby City Council v BA & Ors [2021] EWHC 2931 (Fam) (03 November 2021)
Judgment in 4 cases concerning whether it remains open to the court to authorise, under its inherent jurisdiction, the deprivation of liberty of a child under the age of 16 in cases where a placement either will not or cannot comply with the Practice Guidance. Full report: Bailli.

University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust v AS & Ors [2021] EWHC 2927 (Fam) (27 October 2021)
Application by hospital Trust for determination as to what treatment is in best interests of 4 year old child suffering from Krabbe Disease, a life-limiting genetic disorder. Full report: Bailii.

Siddiqui v Siddiqui & Anor [2021] EWCA Civ 1572 (02 November 2021)
Application for permission to appeal from order dismissing applications by 41 year old man for financial orders against his parents, under s27 MCA, s15 & Sch1 CA 1989, & inherent jurisdiction. Permission refused. Full report: Bailii. See also my very brief note, here.

A Local Authority v Mother & Ors [2021] EWHC 2794 (Fam)
An application for a costs order was brought by the LA, the parents, and the Children’s Guardian against DM and MH. DM was originally appointed as the Father’s intermediary and MH acted as his intermediary for 2 days of what was supposed to be the final hearing. The substantive case concerned care proceedings brought by the LA. Mrs Justice Lieven determined that a costs order against DM was justified. Full report: Family Law Week.

BT v CU [2021] EWFC 87 (01 November 2021)
